Susan (Sue) Nowling

1951-01-31 2014-08-18
Susan Nowling, of Hollywood, Florida, passed away in 2014 at the age of 63.

Susan had the love, respect and admiration of countless friends and colleagues, near and far, with friendships being her priority. She had a loving heart, beautiful spirit and an open, curious, brilliant mind. She was a wonderful raconteur who truly enjoyed sharing laughter and it was a great pleasure to be a recipient and participant in her humor and wit. With style, grace and passion, Susan always danced (and really loved to dance), to her unique beat of the drum. She was a visionary, a leader, a mentor and was equally creative as an artist as she was in business. She was a talented entrepreneur and had navigated fearlessly to achieve success in whatever her chosen profession.

At the age of 20, she established, owned and was President of the “Garden of Eden” chain of shops in Minnesota and went on to become a book and magazine publisher, designer and marketer. Even in the face of her illness, she maintained her humor, courage and tenacity. Susan will be deeply missed by family, friends and her beloved dog, Lula, and will always be remembered as a special, bright light for all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Tributes from friends:

>Sue had a bold spirit, loving heart, brilliant mind, and great wit.

>You were always loved. There is a warm spot in the world that you created for all. Your glow will be everlasting to all who shared time with you. Rest in peace dear friend.

>There was and is no one that causes a belly laugh like Susan. Susan took me in during a tough time in my life..asked no questions and kept me laughing and loving throughout. Her unique perspective on life, her brilliant business concepts and approaches, her unconditional love of friends and animals...oh, how I wish we had had one more good laugh and hug. One particular memory that I shared with my sons. I walked into Susan's office and told her about a business I was considering starting. She paused, took out a pen, and quickly drew out a logo and a business card and pushed it across her desk. It was another of those many famous Susan "brilliant" moments. It was "spot on".
